Yea, we all hear about the cost of R+D, except that most are now spending more money on marketing.

Re: Gov't steals from hoarder....??
I am in COMPLETE disagreement with this! This guy didn't push an old lady to the ground in Walmart and steal her cart of toilet paper. He (presumably) foresaw a need, competed fairly on the open market to purchase items that he believed might address this need, and took all of the associated risks with investing his money in this way. Then he watched demand soar, and now is trying to capitalize on his foresight and risky investment. I'm sorry but I have no problem with that. He should make whatever the market will bear.
Many of us here run out and buy AR's or ammo now when they're cheap with the idea in mind that they will become more expensive/unavailable later. So if 5 years from now when you have the only AR on the block, should you sell it at your original low cost to your neighbor who was too lazy, cheap or foolish not to buy his own when they were cheap everywhere? Or should you reasonably hope to sell it for a profit. Maybe even a huge, obscene profit?
Oh, that's not right? Ok, any of you who bought a registered MP5 years ago willing to sell it to me now for say $1500? What's that? They now go for $40,000?!? Well, that's an obscene profit. Aren't you ashamed of yourself?
Similarly, you worked very hard all your life and now make a salary of $250,000, whereas I played around all my life and am hoping to work my way up to shift manager at Burger King and I only make $25,000. That's not fair. Someone from the government should come along and seize what you have and give it to me!
My charge card is very happy to let me take a cash advance on my card and will only charge me 24.7% for this privilege. But the bank only pays me 0.5% on the money I deposit. How is that fair? I want the government to fix this for me!!
What the hell is this country coming to??? A nation of whiners, cry babies, and socialists. Our nation's founders would be ashamed of us!

And I am in complete agreement with you on this I don't see them applying it to businesses that do this all the time regularly , you know the ones that lobby to the politicians. Taking by force is bullshit they could say he can't sell them for that inflated amount ,but what they did for the "greater good" is flat out theft. Wait till they apply that theory to the amount of ammo you should be allowed to own at one time and if they feel you have too much they pay you what they feel is fair market rate and take it from you. Property is property taking by force is theft plain and simple.

I am in complete agreement against the taking of private property. But the supply side of such an unusual amount has to come in question. Did he obtain these legally? Theft has been mentioned as a large part of the problem. And in the NYC area? Fuggetabout it!
I hope he was the legal owner just so he has a case later.Last edited by ABuck; April 3rd, 2020 at 01:07 PM.

I had no idea about that 'gouging law', but as mentioned, I can't see how that applies to private sales
Did this guy acquire them legally? Seems so.
Did he break any laws by selling them privately? Seems not.
One to keep an eye on for sure.

Here's another thing that makes you go hmmmm.
The feds apparently took the doctor's word about the sales price and even the sale agreement in general, that was their basis for taking the property?
What if the guy had not offered the items for sale? Would the feds still take everything? I have a strong feeling they would've.
EDIT, I just read the statute. This guy will skate on price gouging because the equipment was not for sale or later used as "consumer goods" as per the definition in the statute.Last edited by ray h; April 3rd, 2020 at 08:54 PM.

Private property is private property. This individual was doing nothing different than the government does every day, except they're too busy waging endless wars, impeaching Trump, and conjuring up every imaginable scenario to avoid taking care of business. The "hoarders" would have shit if the gov had 1/1,000,000 of the pandemic preps it has in war preps.
