Now that meat processing plants are beginning to shut down, due to worker Covid-19 infections and fear of infection, maybe the headline reading naysayers should actually read articles for proper understanding. There is always the option to stay ignorant, which is indeed your Constitutional right.

I just heard Krakatoa just blew its top. Last time, this caused a several year long, several degree drop in global temperatures. More winter. Less crops. Food shortage. We are screwed now...

You're talking about the eruption of 1883, basically the entire island exploded, it was yuuuuge, much more yuuuuge than the recent eruption. It's claimed that explosion in 1883 was heard in eastern Australia. We really won't see that kind of world wide effect unless it's a much much yuuuuger eruption.

Re: Possible food shortage looms according to U.N.
in 1816 Mt Tambora erupted in the Indian Ocean and created enough dust to surround the globe. It was called the' the Year without Summer" a quote attributed to Percy Blythe Shelly the husband of Mary Shelly who wrote the story Frankenstein. Crop failures all over North America and Europe.
The weather in 1816 was unprecedented. Spring arrived as usual. But then the seasons seemed to turn backward, as cold temperatures returned. In some places, the sky appeared permanently overcast. The lack of sunlight became so severe that farmers lost their crops and food shortages were reported in Ireland, France, England, and the United States.
In Virginia, Thomas Jefferson retired from the presidency and farming at Monticello, sustained crop failures that sent him further into debt. In Europe, the gloomy weather helped inspire the writing of a classic horror tale, Frankenstein.Corruption is the default behavior of government officials. JPC

I know this one was nothing compared to the last one. Just sarcastically buying into the doom and gloom...
