Default FYI: UPDATED Load Data for the 7.62MM Match M852 Cartridge

Here is some Load Data that some of you maybe interested in.

Back in the 80s I purchased a New Smith Enterprise M14 NM Receiver from SEI and had it built into a M21 Sniper Rifle. The document that I am posting came with this M14 receiver and details the loading data for the 7.62MM Match M852 Cartridge.

UPDATE: I was informed in the M14 forum by KurtC that the 7.62MM M852 NM Load of IMR 4895 was updated and the powder was increased to 42 grns. Some shooters have pulled bullets on the M852 Cartridge and found powder weights over 43 grns. I guess a good starting point to create an M852 round for you M1A would be in the area of 42 grns of 4895.

I am sitting on 1,500 Sierra 168 Match bullets. I want to develop a good load for my M21. The ART II Sniper Scope on my M21 has the Ranging Cam for the 168 grn National Match Cartridge. Once I can get out and buy some more primers and powder I will start developing my load.

Military cartridges were loaded with bulk non canistered powders with different lots having slightly different burning rates. When they found a faster / slower lot they adjusted the charge till it made spec velocity. I think the load might be close but you will need a chronograph if you try and match what comes out of a pulled bullet. Do you have any surplus 4895? If you do just start low and work it up to spec velocity. If not use the published data listed for the modern 4895. Even then a chrony is useful.
