I guess you missed the part where I said I DID buy my own modem.
And whenever my modem is attached; they magically say it doesn't work. Even though it worked for several hours the first time it was attached.
Hence my "I assume they are lying to me. They want me to keep renting THEIR modem"--ET

I just went through the same BS dance with RCN. We've had RCN for about 7 years. The first 4 were fine, bills were the same, maybe a modest increase every year or so. Then the bills started getting jacked way up, and had to call and get a new "promotional rate". Last year they wouldn't do that, so we dropped the cable TV and started streaming. My last bill was 22% higher, so made the call and got the rate down to $4 and change over previous but with a speed upgrade (my wife depends in internet working from home, so faster speed is always welcome). I would love to say "F-U" to them, but of the three service providers here, they are the best and/or less expensive. So, I'm resigned to do that dance every year.
