Senate Leaders Urge Governor to Classify Residential Construction As Essential

Governor Wolf’s order to close all non-essential businesses two weeks ago idled numerous construction projects throughout the state. Senate leaders wrote a letter to Governor Wolf this week encouraging him to reclassify residential construction activities as an essential business and allow these projects to resume – as long as social distancing protocols are followed to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security recently classified residential construction as an essential business. Pennsylvania is the only state to shut down all active public and private construction sites as a result of the COVID-19 crisis. New Jersey, California, Illinois and New York have issued shelter-in-place orders, but provide an exemption for construction personnel and construction activities.

The letter from Senate leaders is available here. Several lawmakers have also announced plans to introduce a bill to allow construction activities to resume with the proper protections in place to protect workers. More information on that bill is available here.

The government has specifically distorted the truth (that those WITH the coronavirus are a health risk to others) into the assertion that EVERYONE is a health risk to others. Even worse, by emphasizing the death rate (with no indication of the age of those dying) rather than the recovery rate, the implication is that getting the virus is a death sentence. In the same way that the anti-gun hoplophobes assert that every gun is a risk to everyone around it, just so, the reality of this virus has been distorted to provide for a hysterical response.

It is asserted that the 90% without the virus must be treated just like those who have the virus. It is not enough for those MOST VULNERABLE to isolate themselves from everyone to protect their weakened condition and it is not enough for those with the virus to be isolated from others for treatment and to protect others from exposure. No, the 90% must be forcibly prevented from making their own decisions.

If the MOST VULNERABLE are self-isolating (those who would require hospitalization if infected) and the ones who contract the virus are self-isolating (seeking treatment and/or self-quarantining), then the rest of society should be left to decide for themselves, having the Right to Choose, what the level of risk is from leaving their homes.

Instead, the 90% must be forcibly mandated from making a decision to move on with life and take the risk of contracting the virus, from which 90% do not have enough complications to require hospitalization.

In essence, the government has repealed the Right of THE PEOPLE for self-determination.

I have no problem with whatever level of protection people want to take for themselves and their loved ones. Do whatever you think necessary to protect yourself. The government should be advocating what they think is necessary. They should also be providing REAL FACTS (all the facts) for THE PEOPLE to make informed decisions.

But those who can't make the distinction between,
THE PEOPLE choosing to self-quarantine for the good of themselves and others
-vs- the Government issuing an EDICT imposing a forced quarantine upon everyone,
do not understand the nature of Freedom
or the founding principles of America.

AFAIK, this asshole's family cabinet business is still working, despite having a worthless cease and desist letter. It's time for a huge FU to this asshole and his BS. If he tries to escalate, respond accordingly. I don't advocate violence against the PSP or any person, but the property and financial interests of assholes is fair game in my world. I just want to see real businesses get back to what they do. DO NOT let these idjits pursue their agenda by fucking you.

As stated in another thread, Wolf's claimed blind trust is not even close to being credible. His family is still running that business. They are thumbing their noses at the people of PA, just as we should be at his illegal "orders". This asshole or at least his money source needs to be gone.

All this because some guys in china cant get their inch high private eye up without smuggling and eating some dragon/armadillo thing that is endangered when the sushi bar is opened. Get a viagra and eat a damn cheeseburger. Trump has a good shot of losing because of this. Our economy is going to be screwed and thousands of people are going to die. Something needs to be done to sanction china over this

Trump's approval rating is sky high for his handling of this "crisis". I think what Trump has come to the conclusion of is "Santy Claus gets reelected" everyone else gets to pound sand. All this hand wringing an oh dear, oh my's began with a bowl of bat soup in China. That land in Florida is still up for grabs if anyone is interested.
