Default Pool Shock for potable water / 60% calcium hypochlorite ?

I have been looking around for some pool shock online , most if not all brands like HTH and such only seem to only have have 52 to 56 % calcium hypochlorite.
I would prefer 60 % or better for potable water JIC, and I do not see anything at wally mart, home depot, ect.
Am I missing something? or is 56% the right number.
or is there and alternative I am overlooking?
Thanks to any that can help.

    Here's the cheapest at 58%

One Lb treats 10,000 gallons. That's a lot of water and the concentration is still above what you want to be drinking.

Just make sure your pool shock is straight bleach without added chemicals like cyanuric acid. Avoid anything with anti fungals.

On practice there is absolutely no difference between 56 and 60% calcium hypochlorite You will have more of an error measuring it out. And like all bleach it loses potency over time (but not as bad as regular bleach). As others have mentioned make sure it is pure.

But I would not worry about it too much. The CDC's recommended strength is to sterilize water that was soaking with dead Ebola victims. In reality most US water is not that bad (ever been swimming and accidentally take a gulp of lake water?) Who wants to drink pool water even though it is safe, you can be just as safe using lower amounts of bleach, clear water, and letting the water sit for a longer amount of time.

That works just fine short term. But the availability of fuel for cooking and keeping warm can be a bigger problem than finding water if things get bad long term. So don't waste it.

Your dog can drink out of toilets, lakes, rivers, and mud puddles and they don't get sick. When its TEOTWAWKI you will have to adapt and do this to.
