    Default Cash

Saw this article warning people not to take money out of the banks because there is no reason to:

    https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/18/econo...rus/index.html

Of course...I think most people would read that and think, “I better go get my cash.” (:

Even if the banks have cash, it doesn’t mean the ATMs will remain fully stocked. And who wants to stand in line at the ATM with a bunch of other losers anyway? Seems like a great opportunity to get robbed.

Do you have cash? I do. I have plenty. And it has been in my safe for a while, so I know it is coronavirus free too.

As for their comment about peer-to-peer payments like Apple Pay Cash, Venmo and the like...I’m good there too.

Government plans on sending out checks for $1000. If everyone receiving that check wants to cash it, things might get interesting.

I have my son's saxophone at the local music shop for a cleaning and tune-up before I put it on Ebay. They called to tell me it's done. He wanted a CC over the phone so no exchange of anything but the sax was necessary.

Still, I think having cash on hand is reasonable. If TEOTWAWKI happens, it's a very durable ass wipe.

Heh. You need to get up on modern technology.

1). Remote deposit check with phone app.

2). Transfer money from bank account to your phone payment platform of choice (Apple Pay Cash, Venmo, etc.).

3). Use your phone to buy whatever, whether retail or peer to peer.

Went to my local bank branch this AM...surprised to find the Lobby door locked and a sign instructing customers to use the window or ATM machine...bank lobby will not be open to customers. Waited in line at the window while folks were standing at the outside ATM takin' cash......usually a with drawl limit at the window.....I dunno.

We have some on hand I would like more but the better half wasn't ready to take anymore out of the bank right now. As I reported in another thread people have been coming into the bank my wife works at since Monday taking anywhere from $5 to $20k out at a time. They had to put a $5k limit per day per person or you have to call and order it ahead of time since banks do not have more then a few hundred thousand dollars on hand at any given time.

Without anyone disclosing what they may or may not have on hand what's the minimum amount one should have?
