I dont have the gun and ammo on me at work, but the pack is in the truck all the time, but if I do I have a locking safe under the rear seat. But then again, they don't search womens handbags so my maxpedition jumbo pack should be safe... Right?

I'm getting to be semi-retired and can pick and choose the jobs I take, so mine rides in the back of my small SUV and is covered by a retractable cover. The windows are tinted and everything about it screams "boring!".

I'm currently in WV and have two small bags of stuff and a third small bag that hides a Kel Tec Sub2000 9mm with mags and a small pistol. I'm sure it's overkill but with the current climate in the country and world, it seems like a sensible idea to have options.

My Walmart has almost all the backpacks on clearance.
Lucky for me, they have yet to put clearance PRICE TAGS on most of them, so there's still a bunch available.
I discovered this when I scanned each of the ones not marked with a clearance tag and it said they were at least half the original price.
Heck, even the ones WITH clearance tags scanned for less than the marked price.

I found that my smallish original pack will not hold everything I want to keep in it and I had to split stuff into two packs.
The two packs go in the vehicle - I figure I could pick and choose what I may most likely need to take if I have to strike out on foot. I keep mostly winter clothes and cooking pot/tarps in the "second" pack. Not ideal, which is why I want to get one, larger pack.

Now is the time to catch a great deal on one.
I'm more drawn to the heavier weight nylon packs that hold their shape, vs the ultralight nylon packs that are more or less a big "sack" with a drawstring closure on top, with a flap that covers it, and buckles closed.
Unfortunately, the better deals are on the "softer" packs.

Any thoughts on a pack of this style?

I can get the 20L size for $17.50

I can get this 30L size for $22.00 (may be larger than I need though)

We also have the Outdoor Products Quest 29L for $29.98 (reg price)

and the Outdoor Products Vortex 30L for $32.44 (reg price)
Actually a great deal considering it comes with a water bottle

These are more or less the STYLE of pack I originally had - they seem to have more compartments for sorting things.
Not sure which would be better.
The Vortex seems to be a hybrid of the shape of pack I like with compartments while using the thinner nylon material.

    (Vortex shown)
I kind of like that this one would be more "grey man" as it doesn't shout "tactical" like the one above covered in MOLLE.
That said, I DO like the ability to attach things to the outside.

    Question:

If I should go for the style that is more or less just one large compartment like the first one pictured above, does anyone have suggestions for small, affordable pouches that I could buy to pack separate "kits" into to drop into the large bag?

Like a "fire kit", a "med kit", a "cooking kit", a "snacks kit"... just a way to organize things to get to what I need easily vs just piling a bunch of crap into a big pack.

I pick up various military pouches from a surplus store near me on occasion.
Use them to keep things separate in the motorcycle saddle bags.

I would get the bigger one. You don't have to fill it but you can't over fill the smaller one.

Honestly? I don't even care anymore. I'd just say "fuck it" and start walking home. 17 miles isn't far. If something happens, it happens.

Add some binoculars to your bag, so you can spot whomever is going to whack you from a distance, and maybe avoid them.

    True.
I was more or less pondering the two different styles vs the size.

The ones with the thinner nylon that are mostly just one large cavity seem like it would be harder to keep stuff "contained" vs the heavier nylon material packs that have a "shape" to them with multiple compartments.

I may just buy one of each, take them home, stuff them full of shit, and see which one I think would be best.
    Return the other.
