Re: Consensus on expiration dates?
When I was about 8 years old, my entire family was hospitalized for severe food poisoning and we spent about a week in the hospital on IV's and whatnot. It's when I learned the term "projectile vomiting." It was either bad tuna or bad mayo, but to this day I'm nervous about eating anything WAY pass the expiration date. Around 1998, I got food poisoning real bad a second time at US Steel at Irvin Works from bad chicken in the mess hall, that was rough too but not has bad as when I was a kid.
SO, you won't see me eating most things pass Expiration Dates, would rather go shoot a deer in the backyard and gnaw on that for a couple of weeks.Washington County Machine Guns & Tactical Range -- CMP Affiliated Club -- FFL 07 / FFL 10 / FEL 20 / SOT 02 / ITAR

Well, ALDI shoppers aren't dropping over like flies are they? I got food poisoning from "fresh" romaine lettuce straight from poop loving California just two years ago.

Re: Consensus on expiration dates?
Food poisoning is a strong deterrent for me. The more meat that is involved, the less likely I am to gamble past the date.

Re: Consensus on expiration dates?
Meats, dairy, and prepackaged salads - we generally adhere to the dates. If we freeze the meat, we go by the condition it is in after freezing.
Canned good - dates generally don't matter for most things for us.
Bread - If it hasn't gone stale and it doesn't have mold, it still gets eaten.
Eggs - store bought eggs, we probably will still use for a few days after. Unwashed farm eggs with no dates - we generally eat them upto 30 days after buying them if we refrigerate them. 2 weeks if we keep them out.RIP: SFN, 1861, twoeggsup, Lambo, jamesjo, JayBell, 32 Magnum, Pro2A, mrwildroot, dregan, Frenchy, Fragger, ungawa, Mtn Jack, Grapeshot, R.W.J., PennsyPlinker, Statkowski, Deanimator, roland, aubie515
