Re: PA Sheriffs use COVID as a reason to suspend LTCF processing.
We're working with a number of Sheriffs to find ways for them to either remain open or reopen.

Letter from Sheriff Ott
*** UPDATED INFO. PLEASE SHARE! ***
After a lengthy discussion and valuable input from several constituents, I have reconsidered my stance on the suspension of LTC applications. Discussions regarding the COVID 19 virus remain ongoing and constantly changing.
It is evident this pandemic will affect us for a much longer period of time than was originally believed. I do not want to infringe upon anyone’s Constitutional or Second Amendment Rights, or ability to defend themselves or family. That being said, my office will accept applicants by appointment only.
This process will take effect on Monday, March 23, 2020. Please make your appointment by calling 814.693.3100. We will do our absolute best to schedule you as soon as possible. Again, we are taking the health and safety of our community into consideration.
I apologize for any confusion this may have caused but believe this compromise will be beneficial.
As always, God bless and thank you for your support during this crisis.
Sincerely,
James E. Ott

Re: Letter from Sheriff Ott
I contacted Senator Scott Martin via email. I received response next day, which is copied below.
"Thank you for reaching out to Senator Scott Martin.
I contacted our State Police liaison regarding your questions about renewing concealed carry permits. He informed me that this is up to the Sheriffs Association to allow for extensions, the PSP only do the PICS checks. He does believe they are working on it with their legal counsel.
He suggested that it would go to the media once they have finalized it.
Thanks much,

So if I am reading response correctly maybe we should be contacting Sheriff Association. Link with contact info

Re: Letter from Sheriff Ott
Uhh....NO.
The Sheriff's Association has jack squat to do with what the law is, or making changes to the law. There is no provision for suspension of issuance, the courts have already turned the "exception" into a "defense", and even with no arrests or prosecutions of those within the 6-month window, anyone who has not previously been licensed is absolutely fucked.
As a temporary remedy to the lack of Constitutional carry, I'd like to see legislation to suspend the licensing requirement state-wide any time a single sheriff suspends issuance/renewal. How the hell are you supposed to obtain something to satisfy the government when that same government refuses to give it to you?
Also, I've updated the OP to the best of my knowledge. I can't include any more images there, and I need to get caught up on links. I may try to recreate that all in a google doc with lot of screenshots, so it can be referred to in the future to hold these folks accountable for exactly what they said and did. Collecting weekly perishables for my household is taking longer than usual, and I'm doing review/organization of food stores. Starting next weekend, I'll be on a work shutdown, so I'll try to get everything related to this mess squared away during that time, if not before.Last edited by gnbrotz; March 21st, 2020 at 09:12 AM.
