Default PA Sheriffs use COVID as a reason to suspend LTCF processing.

Info grew too large to be contained here with multiple screenshots. See Google Doc linky for most complete info.

As of this post (3/16/20 @5:13pm) three PA counties have announced the suspension of LTCF processing. They are Allegheny, Montgomery, and Erie. My guess is there will be more than a few more. Add them as you learn of them, with links if you have them. The info I've seen so far is on 'official' social media accounts, so I'll try to get some screenshots since I know many of you don't do FB, etc.

    Berks
Reportedly issuing both new and renewals on 3/23. Ongoing intentions unclear.

    Blair
Possibly now issuing on an "appointment only" basis?

But I'm quite sure they'll arrest you for carrying without.

Alleghany pointed out the exemption past expiration, but that doesn't help someone near the end of that window, or any brand new applicant.

    Totally unacceptable (and IMO, illegal).

And this is the very fucking reason why article 1 section 21 says SHALL NOT BE QUESTIONED.

It would be plausible to argue that the Sheriff's offices don't want the face-to-face encounters, except that (a) they will still be cuffing and transporting prisoners (possibly the least-hygienic population in America), and (b) in Montco they add this: "Applications can still be filled out and submitted online, but due to exigent circumstances they will not be processed until 30 days after submission."

How would processing online applications create any risk for the deputies? I'm pretty sure that nobody, anywhere, has ever contracted a disease other than carpal tunnel syndrome from querying PICS. Even taking the photo could be managed for zero risk, just drape a tarp between the subject and the photographer.

I believe it's the face-to-face with the clerk when you had her/him the application, and that nasty $20 bill.
