Damn I have never seen a thread where the comments and opinions were so in line with one another.

Better lock this one and make it a sticky.

I have an original Colt .22 Conversion kit. Kinda finicky. Gotta keep it's barrel and floating chamber clean.

Ciener makes an aluminum slide kit known for accuracy and reliability. Supposedly they also make the Kimber kits.

Yeah, it looks like if I do decide to do a .22 on a 1911 frame I'll probably just go the conversion route. Thanks for all the inputs and the link to the Ciener conversion, I'll start researching the different conversion kits.

What about the Browning 1911 22s? Never used one and they are 80% scale but I wonder how well they function?

Former Army teammates of mine used the Kart conversion, which Mr. Kart ceased production of because of lawsuit as I understand. I use a Marvel standard Unit 2 which so far seems very good. Every now and again I think about getting their Unit 1 precision beast, but I'm not shooting bullseye anymore.

I always wanted a marvel conversion kit or a colt ace Kit but I settled on a ruger mkiii 22/45. The downsides are it was made before it accepted 1911 grips so it doesn’t feel like a real 1911 in hand and the controls are definitely different. It’s a great pistol on it’s own but for training I’d rather have a replacement upper.

I own 3 GSG/Sig 1911 22s. The first ones that were built had some cheap parts that required upgrades, no big deal since 80% of standard 1911 parts fit these guns. The newer ones are built much better but you may still want to upgrade the slide release. Both old and newer ones need a good break-in of around 500 rounds with good ammo, like Mini Mags. The older one will shoot bulk Federal ammo all day long without an issue. The newer one is a little more picky and we use mostly Mini Mags for that one still. The accuracy is just fine out of them at 15 yards. At 25 it spreads a little but that probably the users, not the guns. From all of the 1911 22s and conversion kits I've shot, I'd go with the GSG/Sig hands down. I haven't fired a conversion kit that didn't require higher velocity ammo and I'd rather just spend the money on another gun. The magazines for these guns are the best of the 22 models out there. These are well made with metal, all the others felt very cheaply made and some are plastic.

I've got a sig 1911/22 I picked up a few years ago. It only liked cci ammo at first. But after polishing the slide mating surfaces (buffed the paint off the painted surfaces), it functions much better. I was able to run through bulk ammo without issue. I can't say how accurate it is, but I'm able to hit 8' steel plates at 25 yards fairly consistently. If you can get one cheap enough, polish it up some and maybe add some small upgrades (guide rod and spring), it's a fun gun to shoot, especially if you're into 1911's. I haven't thrown any parts at it, but I'm thinking about getting the upgraded guide rod and spring. There are plenty of YouTube videos out there on how to make them more reliable.

I've also got a Sig 1911/22 that I shoot. It's ok and reliable but IMO not as accurate as my M&P 22 compact and definitely not as accurate as my 6" barrel 617 (for as long as I can hang onto it ).

I just purchased an unfired RRA Bullseye with a matching Marvel unit one over on the Bullseye forum. Can't wait to get my grubby paws on them, but no place to shoot is going to suck some of the fun out!!
