Fouling tends to tighten up the projectile IMO.
A good for instance is when I had my .17hmr hitting shotgun primers at 90yrds like it was nothing,
until I cleaned the barrel Took about 4-500 rnds just to get it "close" to where it used to be,
but far from what it was. I haven't shot it since. The same thing happened to my target .50 too damn expensive
    for that crap.
My bro in laws 1022 hasn't been cleaned in 25years. That thing will take your eye at at 100yrds no problem.
    Never again.

Guys we’re talking handguns here not rifles I doubt very much cleaning my 4.2” barrel is effecting my accuracy. In my revolver after just 100 rounds I have fouling in the cylinder bores including the ring at the front of the chamber. I like my guns clean I may not clean them for a few days but they get cleaned for certain. My carry guns get cleaned before I carry them again and yes I switch guns if I haven’t cleaned them yet. I’m gonna try to get a 22 specific rod since I have a bore snake and it hangs up on the cylinder and I may give the Otis kit a go if I can find one locally

When I say never clean the barrel I mean for .22 LR only. I regularly clean my centerfire rifles and pistol barrels. And with .22s I clean the action (everything BUT the barrel) about every thousand rounds.

Never ever use metal brushes to clean a .22 barrel
