    Default Sandblasting Wooden Stocks?

Has anyone ever tried sandblasting wood as part of the refinishing process? There are some wood stocks on ebay that I kind of want for my 870 (because the 870 in Resident Evil 2 has a wood stock haha) and I feel like I'd have better results doing that than using sandpaper. Last time I refinished a stock (mossberg 500 ... because of The Last of Us) I sanded it and wore down some of the checkering around the grip.

Sandblasting is pretty aggressive, try stripper.

Back in the 80s my Dad sandblasted some of the old interior doors on the farm house and it gave a nice weathered look.

I'm sure those old doors were pine and very soft and he used his buddys grave stone truck blasting rig so it was fairly aggressive.

If you were to blast a hard wood in a bead blasting cabinet I'm sure the results would be far less aggressive.

I fear you'd wind up with a stippled wooden stock.

Don't sandblast or bead blast wood, period. There's no good that can come of it, only potential damage. Nobody wants a rough, ragged stock.

possibly with a soft media like baking soda but do you have experience blasting?
grab a bit of wood and give it a try.

i would recommend sandpaper, stripper and a knife as well as a few small picks or screwdrivers and a stiff nylon brush.
also depends on the quality you are looking for. it will take a lot of time to clean material out of checkering by hand even if you are using stripper.

what makes the RE2 stock different than a stock(oem) stock?
There is no way to make it out alive...

I do have experience blasting. I use primarily fine play sand but I mix different media in with it sometimes depending on what I'm working on. The sand is pretty mild on steel but it roughs up aluminum a bit more so maybe wood is a bad idea. I do like the weathered look but then if that's the case, why refinish it at all I suppose? The resident evil 2 stock is just a beat up wood stock with police forend.

If you want a professional look then it's 100% this. Sanding of any kind its typically a hard no unless making a repair or contour change.
