Re: Just bought my first AR15.... clueless on optics
I just ordered a Vortex Crossfire II from Amazon. On YouTube, Tactical Rifleman did a review of it and loved it. On top of it, Vortex has an awesome lifetime warranty.

Aimpoint pro for about $450.00. You pay for what you get. Easy to operate, easy to mount, no holding down buttons to adjust the brightness just turn the dial.

Re: Just bought my first AR15.... clueless on optics
Which Crossfire?
The Crossfire II seems to be the magnified (ex: 1-4x24) optic while the Crossfire is a more basic red dot.
I tried looking up "Vortex Crossfire II" on Tactical Rifleman's channel, but it looks like it's mislabeled as Vortex Crossfire II, and he's showing a Crossfire.
Maybe I'm just completely wrong about all of it. Ha.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

I ordered this model.
Vortex Crossfire Gen 2 Red Dot
The model I ordered is the CF-RD2. This is the “Gen 2”. The “Gen 1” is CF-RD1.

Re: Just bought my first AR15.... clueless on optics
I put a EXSP3 on my 18" AR. I could hit a 10"x10" plate at 400 yards from a bench. I ended up throwing a 3x9 on it and making into my bench gun.
There's a lot of options in your price range, it all depends on what you want to do with your AR.
If you only need to reach out to >200 yards IMO you don't need a magnified optic.Because Failure Is Not An Option

Re: Just bought my first AR15.... clueless on optics
I bought this a couple years ago. The only negative is the illumination is not very bright. I don't use it 90% of the time anyway. At 1x it's pretty much like a red dot. Good price and lifetime warranty.

Get the best of both worlds with the trade off of weight... yet the magnifier can be removed...

I would also suggest a very good muzzle device, like this...
