I’m mostly interested in the triangle on the top of the receiver. The bolt channel and mag are just curiosities.

Is it common for No4 Mk1’s to be counter bored?

Personally, and I have been looking at SMLEs and above since my Cadet Corp days in an UK "Public School" in the early 1950s, I have never seen a counter-bored LE of any mark. Dave_n (PS still looking for the triangle)

Seems you got on and found your answer. Triangle is a Greek marking.

In my searching it seems there are examples of counter bored Enfield but the consensus is it was probably done post service and not by the military.

Yup. I was just on my way here to update. My thread on gunboards was productive and someone says it’s a Greek Delta mark. More searching by me also uncovered another gunboards thread from a while back where the delta indicates Greek service.

The Enfield section on Gunboards is very good. There are quite a few sections with very knowledgeable people. Milsurps.com also has a very knowledgeable Enfield section.
