Default Re: What ARs do I need?

    I have:
    7.5" .223 pistol with a SBA3 brace (ghost, suppressed)
    7.5" 5.56 NATO SIG 516 SBR (suppressed)
16" 5.56 NATO Ruger SR556 (standard piston AR that shoots great)
    16" 5.56 NATO RRA LAR-15 custom build
16" 300 Blackout Aero Precision custom build (suppressed)
20" 5.56 NATO Armalite M15 (fixed carry handle, A2 stock)

Getting ready to build a suppressed 9mm AR pistol

I don't feel under or over gunned although I am thinking about selling the RRA (just thinking right now)

I’m in the midst of shuffling my AR fleet a bit to better suite my needs.

    End goal is:
    Suppressed 10.5” SBR 5.56 w/ red dot.
    Suppressed 16” .308 w/ 4-16 scope.
    20” 5.56 w/ 3-9 scope.
2 or 3 higher quality 16” midlegths w/ red dots or irons.
    Something retro, just because.

I figure that lineup should cover all my basis and kill the itch to build/buy more....for a while at least.

For what purpose(s) would you own your AR(s), and in what format/layout(s)?

    Examples:
10” SBR in .300BO with a can, a cheap red dot/laser/light, and a basic adjustable stock for home defense.
    - or –
7” in .223 Wylde with BUIS and a blade for a truck gun.
    - or –
20” A1/A2 with irons in 5.56 to harken back to my days with Uncle Sugar.
    - etc…

Not looking for brand names (feel free if you want), just basic whats and whys. Details can be worked out as and when needed.
I think a more pertinent question would be how many and what configurations do you want?

AR-10. You should have one in .308.

Do you have kids? and a wife? Each should have "their" own (yours for now of course!) then at least a spare for each and a couple of parts guns...

    Seriously,

My stable is all 5.56 with one exception - my 9mm "pistol" AR set up for Glock Mags to match my 17 and 26 ...

I have a few fun guns with stupid logos on their sides, and 2 AR pistols that are fun/close quarter guns (8.5 and 10.5 inch) - my suggestion would be to build one at a time as funds become available, and make dedicated variants as you see fit. Any AR, pistols included will reach out to most legal threats, and will supply suppressing fire much further to allow an escape . Never engage when you can disappear.

I build my own, and they have a specific recipe of parts. I’ve built & owned AR’s longer than most. (Right after the Clinton AWB expired...i.e., the beginning of the build culture) In fact I’ve never owned a manufactured AR...only those I have built. And there have been a great deal of them. I’ve built just about every variety. Now, I build them with 16-18” barrels in 5.56 ONLY. To me, this is the trade & true AR. And it fits the bill of every task you listed.

They really are like shoes, or coats - there are some that do OK at several roles, but it's better to have one that's the best for each intended purpose.

Whatever you buy, also get spare parts and bulk ammo.
