Warren Says She’ll Nuke Senate Filibuster To Get Gun Control

During Friday night’s Democratic presidential campaign debate, Elizabeth Warren gave gun owners a stark reminder of just how important the 2020 election will be for our right to keep and bear arms when she said that, if elected, she would nuke the filibuster rule in the Senate in order to ram through gun control bills. From NPR:

When discussing gun control efforts, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren brought up her willingness to scrap the legislative filibuster, especially on an issue like universal background checks, which polls show has the support of a clear majority of Americans. The filibuster creates a hurdle in the Senate that makes it more difficult to passlegislation.

Warren is one of three Democratic candidates on the record backing the end of the filibuster, along with Pete Buttigieg, the former mayor of South Bend, Ind., and billionaire activist TomSteyer.

Buttigieg was then asked about expanding the Supreme Court.

He’s called for increasing the number of justices to 15, with five of those being “apolitical justices picked by the first 10.”

Today the Supreme Court has nine members but the Constitution doesn’t specify how many justices it may include.

Warren, Steyer and entrepreneur Andrew Yang have also expressed support for increasing the size of the court.

It’s crazy to me that Warren would choose universal background checks as her legislative excuse to nuke filibuster, given the fact that even the Obama-era Justice Department acknowledged that a universal background check law would be almost impossible to enforce without a federal gun registration requirement.

Of course Warren wants a federal gun registry as well, though she didn’t bring that up during Friday night’s debate.

As concerning as Warren and Buttigieg’s comments about scrapping the filibuster may be, it’s their support for packing the Supreme Court with anti-gun justices that would be even more dangerous to our civil liberties.

If Warren had her way, her court packing scheme would lead to the the overturning or gutting of the Heller decision, allowing for virtually any gun control law to pass constitutional muster with the high court.

The 2020 election isn’t just about who will be in the White House for the next four years.

It’s about whether or not our Second Amendment rights will be protected or even recognized in the decades ahead. Anti-gun Democrats like Warren have made it clear that if elected, they will target legal gun owners, not violent criminals, in their quest to “end gun violence.”

It’s up to Second Amendment supporters to get involved and engaged this election cycle and back candidates who will ensure our right to keep and bear arms remains intact.

Trumps not perfect so I’m not voting for him............

say some 2nd amendment supporters who will not vote to the delight of Warren, Buttigieg, Yang and the most likely candidate Bloomberg. But it’s not like Bloomberg would do anything to seriously hurt the 2nd would he?

An imperfect Trump is the best defense we have against those who actively want to destroy the 2nd and the rights most of us currently enjoy. I hope supporters of the 2nd make the right call in November and cast their vote for Trump. Trumps not perfect on the 2nd but he is head and shoulders above anyone else. Him winning is by no means a foregone conclusion.

    Agreed on every point.

He is not perfect on *any* issue. But which would you rather have, a cut on the finger or an ax to the head?

The President has no power to make any Senate rule concerning cloture.
The Senate can just refuse to confirm any justice past the current nine.
Warren is daydreaming. And Bearing Arms is fear mongering.

The Dems would need both houses of congress, a super majority in the Senate, and the Presidency. Then they could impeach and remove Kavanaugh, Gorsuch and Roberts and replace them with Obama, Eric Holder and Rahm Emanuel and not have to pack the court with 15 goofball leftists.

While the President has no constitutional authority over senate rules, the reality is that the Senate typically bends to Presidential desire, especially when the President's party is in the majority. That happens all the time. The President has great influence over Senate rule-making. Look no farther than McConnell recently stating that he'll work with the President regarding his impeachment defense.

Fear mongering? Just wondering, do you honestly think all would be ok with any one of the current Democrat candidates as President?

There's a rumor that gun ranges have to turn down new members, thanks to democrats.

Taking Liberty with Pete Seger's song: "Lock and load":

    TIME TO LOCK AND LOAD..
    TIME TO GET CONTROL
HOLD YOUR POWDER TILL TO YOU SEE THE YELLOW OF THEIR SOUL.
WE'VE BEEN DOWN THIS ROAD BEFORE.
NOW'S THE TIME TO LOCK AND LOAD.
OFF WITH SAFETY AND TAKE YOUR AIM,
WHEN THEY COMING DOWN YOUR ROAD AND LANE.

Sounds a lot like what the folks in Virginia said before their last election.

This. If we don't all actually stand up THIS TIME, it WILL happen here. We MUST wake up our friends and neighbors who aren't paying attention!

Stop talking about fear-mongering. You're part of the problem. This may not be the form that the threat ultimately takes, but the threat is here and now. It is on our doorstep.

Are you happy with all the rights we've been regaining recently? Have we been winning so much that you're tired of winning yet? Of course not. Sounds ridiculous, right?

Just holding ground isn't working. Make no mistake, if we aren't winning back ground, we're losing it. The left is winning even when they don't, just by wearing our people down, convincing them that the danger isn't real and it's never going to happen. The people on our side are so accustomed to nothing happening that they are completely unprepared for the danger that lurks just around the corner. That is EXACTLY what happened in VA.

Complacency killed VA, and I don't mean just on election day. A huge percentage of districts had NO Republican candidate, let alone a pro-gun candidate to vote for. How is PA fairing in that regard? Do we have compelling pro-gun candidates in your district? Are our own friends and neighbors excited about voting FOR a pro-gun candidate in your district? If not, why not? What can we do about it?

We MUST start winning some battles soon--taking back some ground we've already lost--or we won't have anyone left who even remembers what it was like before and is willing to fight for it.

I don't believe what you said here for a minute. McConnel only said he would work with the President on this particular issue because he knew all along that the impeachment by the Dims was trumped up and purely political. Other than that, I do not believe that he (or any other Senate leader) would accede to a Presidents demands on Senate rules. Funny thing up there in Washington, they all like to control their own turf.
