    Steel targets require careful situation.
My stands for my AR500 targets are wooden 2x4 and regardless of caliber ...rifle or pistol ….. you have to be mindful when handling the legs cause they got some big shrapnel imbedded , in them.

Shooting mild steel can be dangerous shoot a quality AR500 and angel it properly and you won’t have jackets flying a 100 yards back at you. Not all AR500 is created equally so find a reputable proven brand.

Had a brain fart one afternoon while shooting a function check at 10 yds. with an AR pistol. After shooting a couple of paper targets I switched to my steel during a run. As soon as it dawned on me (a couple of rounds) I stopped and went to check the targets. There was no damage to either target. It was AR500 purchased from Shooting Targets 7, we have several of their targets that have been shot for 5-7 years with no damage. They are hung on chains with a pronounced tip down and will put all splash into the ground or posts holding the targets.

I use the same company. rifle and pistol rated targets. not sure about now-a-days but they used to run sales all the time.
I've been using saw horses to hold the targets but thinking those T posts for fences may be easier.
More and more ranges seem to be allowing paper only or I'd like to get some more
