Curious for your opinions
I spoke to my cousin who lives in another state, and he said he bought a Winchester lever action in 357 Magnum.. Can anybody suggest a practical use for such a weapon ? I've been racking my brain can't come up with anything. Seems like a waste of money to me.

Re: Curious for your opinions
I always thought a .38/.357 lever-action carbine would have been the perfect companion back when cops carried .38/.357 revolvers. Just like they did back in the old west. If one cop woulda had one back during the infamous Miami bank shootout , and knew how to use it , he coulda easily taken a head shot on the body-armor wearing bad guys.

deer rifle provided one is within realistic range. similar sized game as well. (You aren't dropping moose or bear with it)

He just covered it. I've had my Marlin in .357 for 20 years. I can load my light .38 reloads and teach new shooters with it or I can load .357 Magnums and they are really cooking even out of the carbine length barrel, plenty for deer. It's still one of my favorite if not my most favorite rifle. My brother always wants to borrow it.

Close range as in "< 80-100 yards".
And you forgot "good for close range bear gun". If you hunt Laurel thickets or blueberry swamps, it's all you need. Open sights all the way!
PLUS! It works well with a .357 sidearm. You only need one ammo, regardless of whether you are driving carrying the revolver or posting with a rifle.
Nonsense! I got a buddy in Schuylkill Co. whose family eats and breathes black bear hunting. All they use is .357s and their party takes multiple bears annually. Many between 300-500 lbs.
Grizzly...probably not reliably. But black bear...most definitely. Moose...I can't say. I have no experience with hunting them.Sed ego sum homo indomitus
