I wouldn't spend big money on a safe unless I had guns that are pretty rare or had significant sentimental value to me. Since I don't really have any of the aforementioned guns, what I do have is a insurance policy. I do have a safe, but it was inherited and is not an expensive model. It only serves me as a cabinet and a deterrent to any unsophisticated thieves.

I have moderately decent safes, security cameras, alarms, physical deterrents, etc., but I also know I can't plan for every contingency, so I have an insurance policy that covers everything. I have guns that I don't want to lose, but nothing that isn't replaceable. At the end of the day they're just metal and wood (or plastic).

As soon as I start showing pictures of my valuable collection on Internet forums...

and/or start advertising all over my personal vehicle as to what I may own so people can follow me home and case the joint...

    (Neither applies to me, lol.)

I have said before on other forums....it all depends on your threat level and reason for owning a safe. Very few safes will survive a determined thief with the tools and time to use them.

The biggest threat level/ownership reason for most of us is:

    (a) the 'smash and grab' thief, and
    (b) keeping little fingers in the house off the hardware

Neither of the above have either the time nor inclination for ripping a safe from the wall and dragging it to a waiting pickup truck, or sitting in the house for an hour or so going after the safe with a saw, grinder, or pry bar.

I've always used one of the sheetmetal cabinet/lockers screwed to the floor and wall. For me its been an adequate answer for (a) and (b).

3 $500 (10-12yrs ago) Sentry Safes , bolted together , on the second floor. Yinz ain't taking 'em!

If I had a dry basement , I would have a reinforced concrete block wall and steel door vault.
    I don't speak English , I talk American!

I don't own any guns because I thought that was illegal. I keep all valuables in a safety deposit box.

In all seriousness, if anyone has a safety deposit box, get rid of it immediately and get your own safe. That was one of the biggest pains in my ass after my dad died.

Insurance does not cover cash, bullion, etc. The value of which far exceeds the value of guns in the safe for many people.

I keep all of that in a treasure chest buried on a desert island.
