Ruger 22 pistols

Granted the Ruger Standard Model, Mark I and Mark II are not as difficult as the Mark III to put back together. That said, if you read AND FOLLOW the instructions in the manual, the Mark III is no harder to put back together than any of the others. The Mark IV take down has simplified reassembly but you still need to READ THE MANUAL.

A properly maintained Ruger will give you a lifetime+ of great service. You really DO NOT need to completely field strip it to clean it every time you shoot it to keep it functioning properly. Most don't to major disassembly until they start seeing some problems or just can't stand the grime on the gun.

The mark 2 is up there on the horrible to take apart list.

Yet the four I have, or have had are easy to take apart and put back together. Go figure, but I can read the manual.

Ruger makes some fine rimfire pistols!

If you can get it at a decent price, I can't imagine how you could go wrong.

I have the 3 22/45 target and the 4 target love them both. They let you know when it's time to clean.

MK II govt target here. Probably one of the most accurate pistols I own. As others have said you get the hang of disassembly. Can't really go wrong with any varient for plinking or Target competition IMHO.

Mark 3 in 22/45 in my cabinet. Volquartsen and Tandem Cross make some nice upgrade parts as well, like a drop in piece that lets the mag drop at any time in the Mark 3. If you are good with tools you can sand off the plastic grips and install true 1911 bushings and grips on the 22/45 too; it's a very nice upgrade! Any Mark, you can't go wrong.

I don't know what types of pistols you and fami!y are training for, but I think it makes a difference. Try to find a 22 with similar function as your home defense pistol.
There are several companies making 22 versions of their larger caliber guns, Ruger, S&W, Walther, Colt, Sig, Glock, Taurus, the list goes on. These 22s aren't exactly the same as their larger brothers but they offer similar function, field strip, maintenance, etc. Their prices are all competitive, and most are plenty reliable and accurate for training or plinking.
Just saying, if you are training, why not train with something similar to what you are training to use?

The Ruger would be a trainer to learn some fundamentals...trigger, sight alignment and a plinker.. With regards to other platforms.. The Glock is too new to beta test and the others I don't have replica platforms so why buy them? Unless HK has 22 caliber pistol conversions I am unaware of.
