I thought we were planning out into the future a little...and on a weekend.
Calm down, this is an initial run to see if my equipment will do the job and get acquainted with the process. I did post that we would do this before gathering a large group and have it fail and some said that they would like to come and watch just the same. For all we know we could give it an attempt and see that we need more stuff.

    Ha, OK. Blindsided me.

I do plan on trying to pick up a bit/end mill set made specifically for my jig.

I agree that we can't have too many end mills going into this.

You can pick up bits for yourself if you think you must but this collection I bought has more bits that ever thought any one person or company could own. They come in alpha, SAE, metric and numbered.

OK, for those who had shown an interest in the initial trial we are set for 0930 Friday (tomorrow). This is a run to ensure that all should work for a larger gathering.

Great idea on the shakedown run! I'd be interested in attending a future party for sure.

I have to work Friday, so I won't be able to make it.

    Good luck all.

(Still no shipping on the jig, but the two lowers I ordered are in transit)

if this started at 0930, we should be seeing reports of completed projects by now. Update?

I'm sure they'll be pictures as soon as they free their fingers from the twisting around the end mill.

LOL, I mean ROFLMFAO. In your dreams...in my dreams as well. It's a good thing we did it that way we did. Over five non-stop hours in and still not done one. Too bad none of yinz came over, you probably could have learned a whole lot of what not to do. First off it took a while to true the setup up and then we started milling. This is not a Bridgeport with balls the size of...well...me of course. It was slow and steady and learning what the machine can do and how to do it. Then I got tired of the slow progress and went like a bull in a china shop and broke one of the end mill bits. Fortunately we have more .

So...it seemed like the bit we started with started to get tired before we were done so more mill bits is important. Second, bits with short milling parts and longer shaft is important, that will let us go faster as the shaft won't eat up the jig like the milling end does if it's rubbing against the edge of the jig and we won't have to worry so much about getting close to the edge. You might have to see it to understand it but...longer shaft and short milling section, 1/2" of active part is sufficient. In the end I can still not give any idea of how long one will take to mill out once it's down pat but...since everyone has to do their own each will have to watch someone else do theirs so they can do one. Also, once things are figured out a video can be made that will help others out.
