I have a CZ Teal and have no complaints at all. I use it for informal trap as well as sporting clays and it works every time. If you reserach reviews from people who actually use them you will find most are happy with their CZ O/U's.

Are there any moderately priced over unders that aren't made in Turkey?

Only in the "Used" market. Both of these are solid shotguns for Sporting Clays, Skeet. Not so much for Trap because of the comb height and they are not set up to shoot high for rising birds (like in Trap). But they will do for casual Trap shooters.

SKB 500 (older Japanese made or even older Ithaca/USA made) $600-$1000 Typically don't have removable chokes.
Winchester 101's (these were also made in Japan at one time) $800-1000

IMO you're taking a gamble on most any sub $1,500 O/U, most of which are made in Turkey. I would try like hell to find a Browning or Beretta on sale or used. My last resort would be a Franchi or CZ.
10 years in firearms is almost a lifetime with the changes in technology. Read some reviews about Turkish made handguns and shotguns nowadays, they have made great strides in their workmanship. That said, I do not know ANY firearms manufactures that doesn't have a lemon or two come out of the factory, be it Browning, Ruger, Colt, et al. Just because your's didn't function correctly doesn't mean that all of them are bad actors.

I don't know exactly what your budget is but whether it's $500 or $20,000, if the shotgun doesn't fit you it won't be worth the price of a round of clays.

Budget is around $1,500. Was looking at the browning cynergy cx. I shouldered the cz teal and it felt VERY good.

I know this great shop is not near you, but it might be worth a trip if they have a shotgun to meet your needs.
I've bought several shotguns from them over the past 10 years.

    Check out their used dept.

Ruger Red Label on the used market. The gun is currently out of production.

The gun shop in Hellertown had a couple Rugers in the $750 range last time I stopped in. With a budget of $1,500 there are a lot of possibilities on the used market. Might find a good deal the Oaks show.
