Even Colt comes right out and tells you these are not hand fitted firearms. They are production firearms using more modern production methods. The price should reflect that but from what I've seen so far about pricing is they are going to use the name and fame as their pricing point rather than their quality.

Their pricing structure, like all others are based on what the MARKET will pay, not just what it costs them to make the product. If they can get people to pay larger prices, then they are more profitable. It's just how business works.

There is more to it than this. They develop cylinder axial play and the fix is so expensive, people put them up for sale. Be very careful when considering a purchase of a used original.
There are two kinds of guns. Those I have acquired, and those I hope to.

NEVER buy a new model firearm (from any manufacturer) the first year it comes out.

I've seen the internals of the new King Cobra. V-mainspring and obviously MIM parts. Wonder if the new Python uses the same lockworks?

They are most likely all the same for ease of manufacturing and lower costs.

Played with it a bunch at the Great American outdoor show. The 10 on display felt really nice but there was some inconstancy-some of that was how much some where played with I am sure, but enough there to make me think there is more then that too it. I spoke with the rep about the rumors of problems, and he assured me they only had about 10 back, 4 were manufacture issues-it happens, 2 seemed to have no problems at all, and 4 appeared to have been messed with-ie trigger job. Said they shipped over 2000.
