Over the decades I've carried numerous calibers, and have always been intrigued by rounds like the 5.7x28.

NAA has 2, once is a .32acp case necked down to .25 and the other is a .380 case necked down to .32. The Russians also have the 5.45x18, but those might be a bit rare in the states to carry one

22 magnum which is essentially what the 5.7 is or is closest too, especially the rounds that are available to the commercial market.

You can head down the Internet rabbit hole on this subject hearing of its mythical performances from FN 5 seven fans. Then once in awhile you come across actual load data and specs that show it’s not more powerful then any commercially loaded 9mm or .40 cal ammunition and often underpowered when compared. Then you will find guys like Larry Vickers and Ken Hackathorn (Yes I trust their opinions) who simply say .22 magnum when asked about the round and its overall performance.

Now 7.62 tokarev is a smoking round. Unfortunately there aren’t really many good choices for pistols in this caliber and again commercial Ammo options are lacking. I think .327 federal magnum might be worth looking into as well, said to outperform both 9mm and .357 magnum with less felt recoil. I don’t know if that’s 100% correct but it’s worth looking into if you like fast moving rounds.

Will it kill people well yes it’s a bullet designed to do so.

No disrespect, but the .22 mag is a poor substitute for the 5.7x28, at least according to the data I've reviewed.
I will look into the .327, looks like an interesting round.

I’ve seen data that goes both ways. I’m not really interested in either so I never cared much. I’m just repeating what guys who worked for these companies and used these products as intended for a living have said.

Another round that you might like is the .22 TCM which is a necked down 5.56 casing. Most of the offerings are in 1911 style pistols giving it zero recoil. That round is screaming fast.

22TCM9R. You can get a conversion kit for a Glock 19 for about $150. Ammo is only made by Armscor, but it's available.

This review covers 22TCM vs 5.7x28. 22TCM9R is a slightly shorter version of 22TCM that will fit in a standard 9mm mag. 22TCM9R will work in any gun that can fire 22TCM, which is limited to 1911's offered by RIA. Armscor was supposed to offer conversion kits for guns other than Glock, but never did. They did offer a 22TCM9R version of their MAPP pistol, but it's no longer on their website.

Yeah I’m not a huge fan either other then range fun, but it looks like the above post helps with that a little.

SS197 is about 350-400 fps faster than 22 mag CCI Vmax out of a pistol length barrel. SS198 is even faster. And there are much more powerful boutique rounds from Elite Ammo, Vanguard Outfitters, RWS, etc. The downside to them is they are brutally expensive and availability is limited. Plus where SD/HD is concerned, rimfire is too unreliable to be considered a serious contender.
