You're not using Boretech Carbon Eliminator? Remoil is a very poor cleaner, btw.

Use a modern cleaner/lubricator like CLP or similar instead of Rem Oil and Hoppes.
Use a bore snake for easier and faster cleaning.
Spray a bunch of CLP down the barrel and let it sit for 10 or 20 minutes before snaking the barrel.
Use nitrile gloves to keep your prints off the metal.
As for the condition of your finish, that's going to depend on your specific guns, you may want to post a few photos and ask the experts for advice.

Use some CLP. Dont over think it. No such thing as residue free.

If you're getting "brown" on the oiling rag/patch/cloth that you're wiping the outside metal with, I wonder if that's super-light surface rust.
I'll get that on occasion on older guns.

If you're really in need of absolute clean, caustic chemicals are the way to go. I used Gun Scrubber on the bolt of my HK91. The crud just kept blasting out until it didn't. Then it was clean and oil free. My buddy that does Cerakote soaks the parts in acetone. Have to be careful on that quest for clean however. Those chemicals can do some harm on the wrong parts.

I make sure all of my guns are clean and do a function check as well, in addition to proper lube. If I am shooting dirty ammo then I might go past a field strip, but not to the point of complete stripping....that only goes for used guns I happen to buy.

Slip2000 products seems to work the best for me in regards of carbon removal, especially AR bolts and carriers.

Im that cringy asshole that doesnt clean his guns till malfunction or failure. Well, most of the time.
If my carry gun feels/looks cringy it might get a q-tip and a drop or two of oil.

I usually don't clean them after I shoot. I always clean them BEFORE a class or qualifier. Carry guns get an occasional wipe-down of the outside of the barrel and the rails, and then lube. Once every year or two I'll go crazy cleaning bores. Life's too short to be stressing about cleaning guns.

The best thing I did was to stop using the .22 conversion kit with my favorite gun, my Sig P229. The gun was getting trashed. I only shoot .22 in .22's now.
