New Jersey Lawmaker Files Legislation that Will Require Gun Owners To Carry $50,000

The first line of the proposed legislation reads “No person shall possess a firearm unless the person has first obtained a policy of firearm liability insurance in an amount of not less than $50,000, specifically covering any damages resulting from any negligent or willful acts involving the use of that firearm while it is owned by that person.” So, basically someone could steal your gun, use it in a crime, and you’ll be held responsible.

That right there will ensure that NO insurance will be available. What company would provide insurance for willful acts. Kind of sounds like the nonexistent ‘murder insurance’ NY was whining about.

And get this. I'm pretty sure it was NJ that outlawed liability insurance for gun owners a number of months ago - so effectively, it is a catch 22. ....you're forced to get insurance that is illegal to have in the state = no gun ownership allowed.

They went after the NRA for their (as antis like to put it) “murder insurance”. The difference is they are currently looking to require insurance for property damage that might occur if you use a firearm. When they went after the NRA they had a problem with carriers being able to have insurance to pay for lawyers and fight the the system that is rigged against them.

USCCA is carry insurance, but it is to protect the gun owner.
