Counties cannot set their own requirements.

Sounds like an illegal additional requirement.

It’s not up to the person to get a letter from the police to clear themselves, it falls to the sheriff to prove one way or another whether or not the person can get a license.

So they got around it by an illegal disclosure.

Not sure if calling up the local PD and asking them "hey, is Roy a known person in your jurisdiction?" is really disclosing anything.....

When I got my first CCW 30 years or more ago, you had to have a Doctor sign off on your application! That went away some time later apparently.

It’s now January 6th. Just checked the website. No requirement for Chief of Police sign off.

(Renewed mine last month via email and picked up ten days later. Very efficient and professional.)

I think you would find the courts would disagree. Even having a publicly viewed sign in roster is a disclosure.

Just moved to PA from NJ this past weekend. Got my Driver's license today and immediately applied for LTCF. Website said I could email the form and both sides of my ID. Form mentioned nothing about PD chief letter. I emailed everything. Received an auto-reply:

We have received your application. If there is a problem, we will contact you by email, phone or US mail. If you do not hear from us, you can come in starting 10 calendar days from the date of this email (Mon-Fri), to finish the process and receive your permit. If you can not come that day, you have up to 45 days to come in. Please make sure to be here 830-1230, Monday through Friday, in the Sheriff’s Office, 2 E. Airy St, Norristown, in the main courthouse. You will need $20, CASH, CHECK OR CARD(not Amex), any existing permit and your driver’s license/PaDOT ID. You will not receive any other notification to come to the office.

So seems like this was indeed just a rumor.
    Eddie
