Re: What to get?? Need help!
You need to spend more time at the Central PA Shoot.
Expense? Recoil?
20 cents a round for range ammo is common. Semi autos are softer on the recoil than the pump shockwaves.
Im a die hard 1911 fanatic but my vote is definitely shotgun but in semi auto. Skip the shockwave. Not sure what the budget is but check out the Spets-12. Someone mentioned the black Aces tactical 12ga "firearm" but if it's a folder I don't believe they are legal anymore due to how they recently defined OAL measurements.Si vis pacem, para bellumμολ ν λαβέWhat country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms!

Re: What to get?? Need help!
The OP's original question was limited to a 1911 or a Mossburg shockwave. Therefore I didn't recommend another type of shotgun. I'll agree that the gas operated semi auto shotguns reduce recoil but some will not work with low brass shells. inertia operated shotguns are a different matter but recoil is about the same as a pump.
There are plenty of good shotguns that don't fall into the firearm category to recommend but again the OP only expressed interest in the shockwave. Anytime I was at the range if some pulled out a shotgun they loaded to capacity emptied it then topped it off again and fired it till empty before stowing away. I just never saw them used much. Just my observations, I'm sure there are some that had a different experience. I also observed that at gun clubs, unless they are being used for skeet or patterned for hunting, some clubs are frowning on the use of shotguns on ranges due to there destructiveness on the range targets. Tactical shotguns are most fun on plinking type ranges however those ranges are hard to find.

1911, but get one with a beavertail safety
I hated mine until i installed the beavertail. It bit the web of my hand erry time i shot it.
Then i added an extended slide release so i could do a mag.change without shifting my grip.
Then learn to reload .45ACP.American by BIRTH, Infidel by CHOICE

Shockwave is pretty fun with minishells.
But if you don't have a 1911, go with that.
