    Default Stupid question I think.....

So I was out with my Ruger Ranch 450bm on first day and with hunting clothes on and sitting in certain positions I could not get close enough comfortably to get the proper eye relief and full sight picture. I esitmate it needs to move strait back about 1/2 an inch or so....How far off will this effect my point of impact? will I have to sight it in again or just a quick test shot?

Pretty much have to resight in as once you loosen the screws and reposition the scope there is no way to be certain where it will hit. Should be close, but why take a chance at wounding or missing a deer

This. You'll have to confirm and possibly re-zero.

Pulling the sight back shouldn't change the zero much. With old school Unertl style scopes the non adjustable scope was held in adjustable mounts and would be set forward after each shot by the recoil. If the scope didn't have a return spring the shooter would have to pull back the scope after every shot (and they are very accurate). With standard mounts it is slightly different but as long as the rings are torqued correctly the zero should not change much.

BUT, like others have mentioned, before you go hunting you should check the zero with at least a few shots. My guess is you will be close you but might need a few clicks to get it to dead center. If you are in the field now I would just deal with the eye relief for now. Its not worth a miss.

Ahh but there is. collimator bore sighter. It puts a grid up when looking through the scope. Write down the square the crosshairs are on and a check can be done anytime.

A lot of rings have non-slip tape in them. It is possible to screw up the alignment by tightening one more. Weaver mounts are known to repeat when removed and I have or have had various tip off scope mounts. What you are explaining is different. You may even have a scope with a two piece tube and some are less than straight. I would go with not doing it unless you can re-sight it in.
