Pistol grip on a Mossberg ... How bad could it really be?
I've probably got no fewer than a dozen posts in the past talking shit on people with pistol grip stocks on their Mossberg shotguns but now I'm giving it some serious thought. I hate my magpul stock and I want a collapsible pistol grip stock. Think of it this way; you still need to change your grip to hit the slide release on an 870 so does it really matter that I need to do that to engage or disengage the safety on a 590? I'd just have to train to only take the safety off and get into a firing grip when I'm ready to fire. I should be doing that anyway so maybe it's not such a bad idea ... What do you folks think?
I'm not talking about a pistol grip ONLY, those are dog shit. Specifically, I was looking at Mesa Tactical LEO kits and ATI talon T3.Last edited by Misery Loves Shotguns; December 1st, 2019 at 03:57 PM.

I almost never use the safety on my shotguns, the only time I do use it is while hunting. The rest of the time its slide open with a shell sitting on the bolt.

I' m not a big fan of pistol grips on shotguns like the Mossberg 590 or the remington 870. Then again that is just me. I suggest trying to find someone who has one and test fire it to make your own decision. It doesn't much matter what others think unless the concept is unsafe or impractical.

Unless you go with the "birdshead" style grip, the pistol style grip is verrry unpleasant to shoot, and puts a lot of strain on your wrist. I use the birdshead grip and point shoot from the hip (I've seen people try to aim these up by their face and this seems silly to me). With the birdshead held at hip level, the recoil moves the shotgun back pivoting at your elbow and allowing your arm muscles to slow the motion - much more pleasant and fun to shoot.

I believe he is talking about shotguns that have both a stock and a pistol grip..

I guess we can continue to "must be what was meant by" until he answers and clarifies what he meant LOL.
My Mossy came with a removable basic stock as well as the pistol grip which I have yet to try so far. There are no pacts between lions and men.

I always found stockless shotgun useless. I prefer a non pistol grip stock.
