Its generally considered the best compromise cartridge there is, and probably the most versatile North American hunting round.

Never shot one but it seems like a fine old school cartridge that still has its place and it is supposed to be extremely accurate.

You should stock up on as much brass as you can find and seriously consider reloading (if you don't already). It was introduced as a mid pressure cartridge but they now have +P loads that would be fine with quality actions. You should be able to easily reload to the +P pressures safely and paying $2 a shot for commercial ammo is no fun.

Parent cartridge is the 7mm mauser, so making brass will never be an issue.

Thought about one a while back, but decided against it as its an odd cartridge.

It’s an old school wildcat round. I shot .257Rob as a kid from an old Winchester 70. Now I shoot .257Rob from a nice Ruger 77. Easy shooting and fantastic characteristics well beyond 200+ yards. Hornady makes a very nice VMax round (careful, it’s a bit of a flamethrower with slower burning powder). Even though I’ve got 30-30, .300S, 30-06, and .308 in the cabinet, .257Rob is still my go to round for anything larger than a groundhog. You will love it; Enjoy!

I shot one for a couple years on a Arisaka action. The EX used a Ruger ultra light. Both shot the same load well. I used Horanady 117 gr round nose and did have some problems with them. At closer ranges they would not open up well unless they hit something solid. Through the rib area just poked holes. After a hundred yards they worked fine.

Needs to be handloaded to achieve its full potential.

Which along with 6.5 Swedish Mauser are about two of the best cartridges for hunting big game in North America.
