Ten thousand deaths, resulting from incidents such as described above, are not worth one person losing his inherent right to self-preservation.
The main reason for the 2A is a check on the tyranny of government. Governments exterminated millions of their own peoples in the 20th Century.
Genocide, or death by government, is always a real and present danger.
Next, government will outlaw stupidity. Where will government get the monies to lock up more than one-half of America?
