I always thought a disease was naturally occurring and contagious. Obviously like many things today , it's definition is whatever someone with a bunch of letter behind their name says it is.

So how do we define the thousands of so called disease that never occur without environmental or human action. Many cancers are then not disease? So cancer, heart disease, diabetes, liver and kidney disease by your definition are not disease since not contagious? Do we stop treating them and have no compassion for those that suffer?

Would be funny if I didn't know a women with little flippers where her arms should have been. She's in her early 70's now. I think it may be used to treat cancer still, back then it was for insomnia and was mothers little helper along with Valium.

As I recall Thalidomide was a teratogen, harmed developing unborn children. Our FDA, which even in the 1960s never let a crisis go to waste, swung into action.

My recollection was that the FDA would not approve it for use in the US and England turned out to be the Guinea pig.

It wasn't unusual to see those thalidomide kids in school in the 50's. I guess we weren't woke, because the other kids didn't really care. No Greta to flip out.
