I'm not a believer that alcoholism is a disease, I mean you dont get it if you touch it,
you get it through addiction. And the last I heard, addiction is mental, not a disease.

I think, and not a expert here, but alcoholism has been proven to be hereditary. Which in my limited scope would mean you have the "diesese" regardless of drinking?

I'm on the side that says alcoholism, drug addiction and obesity are a choice, not a disease. Although a person can be predisposed to such things due to genetic influences, acting on the urge to take that 3rd drink, shoot a needle in your arm or have that jelly donut are choices. Blaming genetics to hide weakness just doesn't fly.

    I completely agree.
Freedom of choice and being required to take responsibility for those choices is the key to liberty. This nonsense about disease and other kinds of leftist rot like vague "oppression" removes personal choice and responsibility. The fact is, we get to choose what we do.

Anyone arguing that you do not have a choice wants to shackle you under real oppression, whether they know it or not. I want my choices and my consequences... so should you.

Besides genetics it almost always tied to psychiatric issues and or trauma. That would mean according to many here all those veterans that wind up addicted, have ptsd and desire to take their own life are merely part of Darwin's grand plan. Keep in mind they have a disproportionate amount of that among their ranks......

So these stoned, violent, non-functional morons are just very very good at getting away with their crimes?

I knew a few very intelligent RF microwave engineers who were big time deadheads , as well as stoners.

Mind altering substances affect differently people differently. Some people don't have much of a mind to expand to begin with. Others become very introspective and can concentrate , it allows them to block out all the other bullshit we're programmed to think every day. Like Simon & Whatshisname sang, "When I think back on all the crap I learned in high school , it's a wonder I can think at all!".

How many people do we know that are generally OK even when drunk , but some , ''instant asshole , just add alcohol''.
