A brilliant and well executed rifle that in spite of a few technical bumps in the development of its cartridge (the diameter change was only part of it) went on to serve nearly 70 years in parts of the world. The Germans officially considered it obsolescent within ten years with the Mauser 98 which is still the benchmark design it is. Of course Hitler hated the rifle because a number of the makers were from Jewish owned manufacturing firms calling it the Judenflinte and saying it was intentionally defective. Funny, but the two I own function flawlessly even after over 125 years.
