Default SMALL Weapon Lights for AR15 Pistols / SBRs

With short barrels and short hand guards comes the problem of having limited space to mount a light.

What kind of solutions are there out there for SBRs and pistols?

What have you come up with yourself?

There are TONS of lighting options, but not a lot of COMPACT solutions.

I was considering one of the Mission First Tactical Torch Backup light, but wanted to pick your brains before going that route.
I realize that 20 lumens is NOT much light, but considering the need for compactness is greater than the need for brightness, it's a trade off I may need to accept - and I don't think it's terrible for simply giving some light indoors and not blinding yourself with excessive amounts of light bouncing off walls.

This is what I'm working with...

And this 5.56 pistol - both are 7"-7.5" barrel - both have M-LOK hand guards, although they are drastically different in circumference.

Jeez 20 lumens is a dim nightlight. The O-light PL2 mini is 600 lumens. They often have sales so you can catch one of those. Might be a good option.

I'm planning on running the Olight that Hodgie posted in the Deals thread, I bought one with the green laser. Its not on sale right now, I bought it at $103 but that was $50 off plus came with a second slim light that I now pocket carry.

    https://olightworld.com/tactical/olight-baldr-pro

The BALDR-Pro weighs 4.55 oz and is 3.3 inches long. It is a bit chubby though, not a flat light like your pic. It is shown as a pistol light under barrel on tactical pistols with a pic rail.

They have the PL-2 Valkyrie which is the same chassis but without the laser. It is $99 not on sale.

So an MLOK short rail section at the 3 or 9 o'clock position and it has a QD mount too.

    They also show this MIni:

Yeah, I know, I'm not interested in a dick measuring contest though - I just need a light that will FIT.

For decades we got along OK without 10,000 lumen lights, and my pistol light has a secondary red LED that simply casts a soft, red "glow" across a room that allows you to see without compromising your night vision. (without blinding you and leaving you unable to see anything when the light goes off)

20 lumens is lower than I would like, but I'm sure that it would be enough to navigate a dark house.

I just want to see if there are alternatives before I get something like that.
I DO have another Idea for a super-compact light, but I'll wait to reveal it.

Oh yeah, most of you already know that I'm not spending $100-$300 on a flashlight.

Feel free to submit suggestions for them for the sake of others who are surely in need of a similar, SMALL light, but I'm hoping to keep this around $50-$75.

Those tiny lights are for up close when you don't want to light up the entire room, kind of like the amount of light you get from a keychain light.

I use offset M-LOK mounts with ProTac lights on my SBRs and they are up and out of the way.
I have the same length rail you have on my 300 BO. Having the light high on the rail makes a BIG difference on short rails.

I mount them on the right side and activate them with my thumb because I don't like tape witches and wires.

Swap out picatinny mount with an M-Lok mount, just make sure the M-Lok screws
are not hitting the gas block or the muzzle device. The M-lok mounting screws will push the barrel over on thin handguards when you tighten them.
You may have to grind the screws down.

You can get Streamlight ProTac lights and mounts for FREE,
or very close to it with Cabela's points if you have their card.
I got them on everything because you can't beat the price.

    https://www.cabelas.com/product/STRE....uts?slotId=10

They are programable so you can set them up the way you want them

I found a video that shows how they work and where they sit on the rail with the M-Lok mount.
He has M-lok slots on the rail where I don't so he has a surface mount, I need the angled mount but the light sits in the same spot on both rails.

I do have an OLD (probably as old as some people on this forum) Insight Technologies M3-LED for my G19
I guess I could order a short rail segment and try it to see how it would fit before spending money on something that I may not need.

+1 to the plight PL-2 Valkyrie. I have one on each of my full sized AR’s and will be buying a 3rd this Black Friday since their sales were huge last year for an 11.5” upper build I am doing now.

The PL mini is also excellent, I have one on my G17 with a lot of rounds trough it since it's been mounted with zero issues. The only issue with mounting it on a rifle is the way the on/off paddles operate, they use a downward operating motion vs an in and out like the PL-2 and using it on a rifle mounted sideways or on an upward 45 degree able would be awkward.
