Silent Spring is an "environmental science" book by Rachel Carson. The book was published on September 27, 1962, documenting the adverse environmental effects caused by the indiscriminate use of pesticides.

Some said she fudged her credentials a bit. She emphasized DDT as being one of if not the worst offending products.

Malaria and related maladies had been much diminished thanks to DDT and reduction of blood-sucking life. Her book is arguably the start of the enviro-whacko movement. DDT use ceased. Malaria and related bloomed.

It has been estimated that mosquito-borne disease kills 2-1/2 million people per year as a result. Doing the math, Carson may be champ.
