German surplus ammo question
I have 40rds of German surplus 7.62x51 ammo (AB 22 20 Patrone, 7.62x51, DM 111, Weichkern), but when I try to find more of it I noticed a different boxed ammo listed in 308
Both rounds look the same, mine says 7.62x51 on the box and the ones for sale say 308 on the box
Are these the same rounds or is there a difference (pressure) like our 308 & 7.62x51

Re: German surplus ammo question
Lots of surplus ammo get reboxed and relabeled for marketing. What does the headstamp say?

Re: German surplus ammo question
If the headstamp has the Nato cross on it it is 7.62x51. And if it is really surplus from Germany it would not be loaded to American .308 specs.
You just need to confirm that is is not a former military manufacturer now making new ammo for the American market (like Privi or Wolf)

Re: German surplus ammo question
Now that you know what it is you can research it on other forums. If it is loaded as strong as commercial 308 I would shoot it in anything except my older 7.62 milsurps not rated for commercial 308. If it is like a typical 7.62 round then I would shoot it in anything.
