    Default Lightfield Sabot Slugs

It looks like these will not be available fora couple of years. My H&R slug gun loves them. Has anyone found another slug that works as well?

I've always had pretty good luck and accuracy with standard slugs in both smooth bore and rifled barrels. I took a number of hogs in FL back in the late '80s and early '90s with them at some strawberry farms. Mossberg 500 with smooth and rifled barrels, and a NEF(H&R) smooth bore single shot modified fixed choke, 12ga for both.

As for sabots, none of my guns ever liked them. ...BUT, that was close to 30 years ago the last time I tried them.

When Allegheny Co went to shotgun only, I bought an Ithaca Deerslayer in 12 ga with a 20" rifled Bbl.

I initially tried Federal slugs in both 3" and 2 3/4" and never got any kind of accuracy.

The first sabot I used was BRI in 2 3/4" and got pretty good groups to 100.
They were eventually bought out by Winchester who had BRI info on the boxes.
Initially, the BRI Winchesters were the cats ass at 100 yds.

I'm not sure what happened but when the BRI packaging went away, so did the groupings.
    Maybe changes to the projectile.

I then tried LightFields and Remington Copper Solids.

Even with different projectile weights, they hit reasonably close groups.

I bought about 10 boxes of the Copper Solids so am using those until I run out.

Some guns seem to shoot certain brands better so perhaps get a couple boxes of a few brands and experiment.
    These are ones I've tried.

Opinions are like anal apertures. They all stink but mine.

My Mossberg 835 with 1-35 twist loved the Lightfields, had to try other brands when I ran out. After spending a bunch of money on testing multiple sabots, the 835 likes the Federal Fusion sabot slug, 12ga 3” 7/8oz @ MV 1700 FPS.

    Why won't they be available?

The story I got from the local shops is that the factory has been closed and is being moved to the US.

I have no idea what the real story is, but today I was in Walmart and they had plenty of 20 ga Lightfields (which is what I use) but no 12 ga. They had none at all when I was there on Friday.

I now have enough for a few years.
