    Default Magisterial District Office

    Is a Magisterial District office a prohibited carry place? I received a traffic citation the other day and the cop advised me I had to go to the office in person to find out how much the fee would be, it wasn’t sure if this was considered a courtroom facility and carry prohibited?

    Yes it is. The definition of a Court Facility is as follows, straight from the statute:

    "Court facility."
    The courtroom of a court of record; a courtroom of a community court;
    the courtroom of a magisterial district judge
    ; a courtroom of the Philadelphia Municipal Court; a courtroom of the Pittsburgh Magistrates Court; a courtroom of the Traffic Court of Philadelphia; judge's chambers; witness rooms; jury deliberation rooms; attorney conference rooms; prisoner holding cells; offices of court clerks, the district attorney, the sheriff and probation and parole officers; and any adjoining corridors.

    Here's the whole section:

    Will they have storage facilities as required by the statute? Probably not.

    This is the BS part. They don't have to comply with the law but we do. I doubt there are many magistrates if at all who DO have storage.

    Maybe. The court I work out of has one lockbox in the lobby for firearms.

    They do have to comply, but many don't.

    About 1/2 the ones I've been in had storage.

    Nope. I'm happy to say that it was already there the first time I showed up to introduce myself as a newly certified constable, just under 4 years ago.

    Actually, the MDJ has very little say over the issue. The person you have to go after is the county's Court Administrator. Might even require a Writ of Mandamus to get it enforced. Of course, if the county administrators don't give the court administrator the funding for such........
