These elitists don't view taking guns as punishment. They want a situation where government has a monopoly of force. They consider disarming mundane people a form of "justice".

The Nazis and Soviets wanted a monopoly of force too.

Everybody knows that you tie the victims' hands first, and THEN start beating them.

Nobody who believes in the sovereign rights of citizens will disarm those citizens, it's a tactic only used by elitists who don't want to waste time in persuading people to try their wacky ideas. Armed people get cocky, and believe they have rights. Unarmed people can be told what to do, and if you fuck up you don't have to worry about starving hordes coming at you with guns.
