Shipping a revolver
Hello, my 1963 python needs to be repaired and I’ve read the best gunsmith for the old colt action would be a gentleman in AZ named frank Glenn. I’ve called colt and they no longer service revolvers from that era.
What would be the best place to ship it from in the SEPA area? He said going through a dealer would be less than using ups on my own.
I believe tanners quoted me $20 before but I tried to call and didn’t get an answer. I’d prefer something in Philadelphia but my local place quoted $130 to overnight it. Thanks!Go head, skin it. Skin that smoke wagon and see what happens.

Re: Shipping a revolver
I have used FedEx to ship handguns to a gunsmith here in PA with no problem. Drop of the boxed gun at a FedEx store give them the required info pay the fee and off it goes. Return was direct to my door.
BTW the Gunsmith is Mark Hartshorne here's his website http://pinnaclehighperformance.com/ Take a look maybe even give him a call.

Re: Shipping a revolver
Tanners charges a flat rate of 50 bucks, just take it to them during normal business hours and they will have it shipped out the next day. Make sure the receiving FFL gets a copy of their license to Tanners via fax or email. You don't need to make an appointment but don't go up there on a Saturday as they are usually very busy on Saturday's. I've shipped several firearms through Tanners without issue.

Re: Shipping a revolver
I tried to call pinnacle because he’s about an hour away but he didn’t answer so I sent an email. I’m just a bit concerned with anyone working on the python since it’s irreplaceable to me. I was sending it to frank Glenn who is highly recommended on the colt forum.

Re: Shipping a revolver
May I ask what needs to be repaired? Just curious. I have a 69 Python and am curious if there’s something I should be watching for.

Re: Shipping a revolver
The ejector rod is slightly bent so it is contacting the inside of the shroud.

Re: Shipping a revolver
You can ship directly to a gunsmith , but it's expensive.
If you have an FFL ship it , they will have to log it into their A&D book , and when it comes back , you will have to fill out the paperwork and have a PICS check , as well as a PA Application for Purchase and Record of Sale.I don't speak English , I talk American!

Re: Shipping a revolver
Just a thought but do you think you need to ship it out for an ejector rod issue? Is there any competent revolver smiths you have heard of around home? I personally would be just as worried about dropping an irreplaceable firearm into any of the delivery systems. I’m just one guy who doesn’t buy any more than my fair share online and I have had quite a few parcels go missing. In some instances they showed a depart from location scan and never reappeared again. I also don’t know any smiths that I would trust with my Python locally so I get what you’re doing.
Best of luck which ever way you go and I truly do hope it turns out great. BrianDDG-8 "Sine Timore"

Re: Shipping a revolver
It would be less expensive to buy an ejector rod and just replace it. It just screws into the ejector stem. Or remove it. Lay in on a brass block and tap it with a brass hammer until in rolls smoothly across a flat surface.

You were on the right track with Pinnacle High Performance and Mark Hartshorne. You don't need a specific model specialist for straightening an ejector rod. As another poster said, I'd be more concerned with shipping it for something this simplistic. Hand carry it to Pinnacle.
