Cool Piebald Deer Turning Heads in Luzerne County

JACKSON TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- A deer in Luzerne County is sparking interest from residents and hunters. The Pennsylvania Game Commission says the animal has a genetic abnormality making it partly white.

A photo of two bucks was captured by someone who lives near the Huntsville Dam near Shavertown

It's not the antlers sparking interest. It's the white coloring of the deer on the left that's catching the eyes of hunters in Luzerne County.

Officers with the Game Commission say the deer is colored that way because of a genetic issue.

"Piebald deer, it is a traditional whitetail deer but the hide may appear to be blotched, might have brown-white patches. Some people call them albino but they're really not an albino deer," explained game commission supervisor Mark Rutkowski.bradley

we got one local to here as well and it'd be a shame for it to disappear, they're really cool looking, like black squirrels.
ours is a doe if i recall.
wife's got a photo of it on her phone, i'd have to see if i can get it on the forum.

I'm with you but there are others out there who feel the other way about it.

A long time ago we had one roaming in our area. I first saw it when it and some friends were foraging in a corn field about a quarter mile away from my house. I first saw what I thought was a large plastic bag blowing around, but noticed it moved in a regular pattern. It was only when I got the binoculars on it I identified it as a deer, and that is when I found out it was not alone, as the brown deer were not clear from my house without visual aids.

I'd shoot it just so I could make a jacket out of it's hide so I could look like Ford Fairlane

There are a few partially albino deer in my area.

My former coworker's brother, took a buck with an all white head and cape not too far from my house.

I used to live right above Quakertown and there was about a 90% white doe near Steinsberg for two years before someone got it. No big deal, I have seen quite a few up this way over the years. Remember the black one shot behind Quakertown? I don't remember when, but it was probably at least 20 years ago. They are supposed to be super rare.
