    Default Help identifying a pistol

    Hi everyone.
I need help identifying an old pistol.
    A 22 short fits in so pretty sure it's a 22.
The only marking is the one on the side but does not make sense. Looking at it fast it looks like HAWKEYE.
Looking closer the H doesn't totally look like a H.
The first E looks like an F.
Also this pistol is a break act but opens to side.
I removed the hand grips and there is no markings under them.

I have attached a link to some pics of gun.

    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ed

That is a unknown make of a single shot derringer, I like the rearward rake on the grip frame and hammer.

I figure there were thousands made and yours would make a nice wall hanger.

    Thanks for sharing, Kobsw

It kind of looks like an Iver Johnson eclipse.

That looks more and more like an eclipse, with the side swing action. Manufactured from 1880 to 1887. It's a 22 short.

Back in the day there were a lot of counterfeit gun manufacturers. And, most patents are typically 20yrs, after that others can make exact copies.

I like it! It might be a 22 short but I would not shoot modern 22 shorts out of it. There is a chance it was a 22 CB or Flobert which are much lower pressure.

If you have to shoot it I would only try the lower power 22 short CB rounds (but do some research first!).

Thanks everyone for your help on identifying this. I have no plans on shooting it. The inside of the barrel is rusted so I'm not going to try and send anything down that. The pivot point where it breaks open is extremely worn, lots of sloop.
Going to put it with my other guns that are for looking but not shooting.👍

    Thanks again everyone.

What is the use of a gun like that? 22 short out of a short barrel. Killing rabbits at point blank range?
