Default SW M&P 15 Sport2 Firing cotter pin

Can I just buy a S.S. or metal cotter pin in the hardware store?

Not sure but I wouldn't risk it when a new one is probably a dollar. Or grab one of the many spare parts kits that go for like $15, and there will be one in there among other good spares to keep around.

Call around some gun shops will have loose parts. You can get one for about three to five dollars.

Since I'm new to the AR. If I use a S.S. or metal pin, what would happen?

I wouldn't necessarily be worried about the finish, more the size, shape, tolerances, etc.

Absolutely nothing. It’s a cotter pin. It was designed as a solid pin. Cotter pins were cheaper. Get stainless if available. It’s only a keeper. If your bolt and carrier are in spec it doesn’t see much stress.

    Ideaman,
I see you are in West Chester, Take a drive down to Targetmaster on Rt 202. They have all the small parts needed for AR's. last time I was there they are in bins in a display case with receivers and other component parts right by the entrance to the range, pick up some spares on the other looseable parts while there
