Re: Why do cops ask about things that are none of their business???
1) It’s the officers job to ask questions. I ask questions when I stop people, but for the most part I don’t care about the answers.
2) The officer was observant and noticed the ammo bag and asked a question related to his observation.
3) No duty to inform, but they have now tied the LTCF info with DL info.
4) You are correct in that you do not have to answer questions that are not specific to the stop. As I said above, most times I am just making conversation. I work steady midnights, so I’m looking for indicators of DUI.

Rules are written in the stone,
Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.

Around here, it's amazing the number of what looks like Driving While Black with a broken tail light or head light stops turn into full blown arrests because outstanding warrants, drugs, suspended license, no reg/insurance, etc. You'd think criminals would learn to not be stupid about the simple/easy things.

Really?
If I understand this correctly you were pulled over for a faulty brake light- perfectly valid reason. Asked reasonable questions based on plain view items.
1. You weren't murdered
2. You weren't beaten.
3. Hell you weren't even disarmed and your firearms disassembled before giving them back to you.
If you want to be Billy badass and refuse dialogue that's your right but to come here and whine like a snow flake is pretty weak. Maybe you can start a " #me too" movement to bring awareness to the country that police may actually investigate during the course of their duties."It seems that the Constitution is more or less guidelines than actual rules"

...and, to say " I know they're trained to ask all of those questions."... no, you don't. I went thru 5 months of Phila Police Academy and courses in several colleges, and not once was I instructed so.
One instructor had an interesting philosophy re interacting with the motorist that you stopped for a MV violation. He said, "you are interrupting his life. You are telling him he is wrong, and people generally do not like that. If you are writing a ticket, that's going to cost them money. So, they have bought and paid for a level of pissed off for an amount of time. Let them have it, and don't let them exceed what they are entitled to".There are two kinds of guns. Those I have acquired, and those I hope to.
