My father had thiss rifle built by john cays of reeders pa, it is a douglas star gauge barrel, kenjarvtrigger with a sako L61r action chambered in 7mm rem mag. Optics by zeiss 3-9.
My father told me before he passed that it likes light loads, I found his load dope schedule from hand loads he had. The question I have is what is this rifle capable of? It was built in about 1980 and is set in mesquite stock the blank was fajen. C9C8D110-1A38-48C7-B61A-41B5C3D15DF7.jpgC9C8D110-1A38-48C7-B61A-41B5C3D15DF7.jpg

I have no idea, but custom rifles are not real sellers in this state.

Capable of as in distance? That would depend on the load. Did he ever mention how far he had the scope sighted out too? If your hunting deer, I would start at 100 yards with it. A deer would be no match for the round. But IMO that should be a range gun only. Its a beautiful rifle and it probably has sentimental value as well.

Yeah, it really is impressive - and I say that having no interest in that type of rifle at all.

    I'd love to see better/clearer photos/closeups.

Wow, I never knew he built rifles. He was an excavator just up the road.........

"also as an accomplished gunsmith. From 1973 to 1988 he ran Pocono Gun Shop located beneath the family home where he repaired firearms and built custom long range competition target rifles for championship marksmen."

Only way to discover the rifles capabilities is to take it out and shoot it. You already know it likes light loads so that's your starting point.
