I mean, really, who is opposed to preventing violence?

This is one concept/meme that gun owners ought to wholly and overwhelmingly adopt and endorse until it means almost the opposite of the "unstated" meaning. So, if we embrace the "stated" meaning, we also support the prevention of violence (which we probably do moreso than the antis).
